DC-SOIAS
Capacitive deionization for Reverse Osmosis effluent treatment
- Published on Monday, 05 October 2015 20:16
The DC-SOIAS project emerges with the objective of developing Capacitive Deionization (CDI) technology for the treatment of reverse osmosis brines resulting from the desalination processes of water (continental or groundwater mainly), avoiding or minimizing the environmental impacts of these effluents. Simultaneously, the project aims to achieve the maximum yield from the water resources by increasing at least a 20% of the recovery from the same inlet flow and with the same energy consumption.
Currently, the management and sustainable use of water sources is one of the most concerning problems in our society. By means of this project we are trying to reach a solution.
The objective is to research and develop new technologies less pollutant and more energetically efficient, allowing the maximum exploitation of natural resources and giving a solution to the global problems related to the water scarcity, but preserving the environment at once.
Furthermore, DC-SOIAS implies the development of CDI to process this kind of effluents, while the named technology is still being developed at research stages for it use with less concentrated solutions (water softening).
